Clinometer?
With the Peter Breitling-developed app Clinometer you can turn your iOS-powered device, be it an iPhone, and iPod Touch or an iPad, into a properly good replacement for a traditional clinometer. I am going to say this just to make sure that everyone is on board: a clinometer, also known as a tilt meter or gradient meter, is a tool you can use to measure the angles of slope, elevation, or depression.
Getting back to the Clinometer app, it is the virtual equivalent of a traditional inclinometer. On top of that, it is also the virtual equivalent of a bubble level. The app is quite precise and quite easy to use – which to my mind is definitely a pro, because I can’t imagine anyone wants to go through a steep learning curve to get accustomed to an app.
To get a better idea of the sort of functionality you can expect to get from Clinometer, here are its main features:
- Advanced two-way calibration on all sides.
- It can display the slope in degrees, percentage and rise over run.
- Easily rotate the background dial to define which side is Oº and which is 90º.
- Switch colors with a simple tap.
- Motion-sensitive lock and adjustable auto-lock.
- Use two devices at the same time in peer mode. One device acts as the display, the other as the measurement tool.
- Works in full screen mode.
The Peter Breitling-developed app Clinometer is an affordable replacement for a traditional clinometer and bubble level. It is an easy to use tool that you can use to measure slopes and other things of the sort. And if you have more than on iOS device, you can use them both in peer mode (one device is the display, the other is the measurement tool).
Pros

- Easy to use
- Advanced two-way calibration
- Change color
- Peer mode
